Teeth are exposed to a wide range of factors, such as food, tea, coffee and tobacco, which will cause stains and discolouring. More seriously, tartar will build up on teeth which may cause gum recession and gum diseases; eventually causing tooth loss. Scaling & Polishing restores teeth to their natural colour and removes tartar build up; as well as allowing your dentist to check for oral disease like cavities and tooth decay.
How Does The Dentist Do The Scaling & Polishing Procedure?
Your dentist will use specialist Scaling instruments to gently remove plaque and calculus deposits in the teeth. This is done through vibrations which loosens the hardened tartar that sticks to the teeth, without the risk of any damage. Polishing is then performed after the scaling has been completed, to remove stains and make your teeth smooth and shiny. A soft, spinning rubber cup is used to do this, filled with Prophylaxis paste (similar to toothpaste).
Does Scaling & Polishing Hurt?
Scaling & Polishing is not painful; and our team at Kincorth Dental are extremely skilled and experienced in this procedure.
